Kidderminster Carolians 58, Handsworth 28

KIDDERMINSTER Carolians romped in ten tries but did not have it all their own way against their rivals from Bir - mingham.

The hosts conceded four touchdowns against newly-promoted Handsworth, who were good value for their bonus point.

Carolians dominated the early exchanges and opened the scoring when right wing Josh Winfield crossed for the opening try, which full back Sam Taylor converted.

Two penalties saw Hands - worth draw level but Carolians extended their lead with a Taylor penalty and Alex Baldwin try.

KCs continue to conceded too many penalties and Baldwin was sin-binned, which allowed Handsworth to dominate for 15 minutes.

But the home side made it 19-6 when Lawrence Hughes marked his return from a lengthy injury absence with a touchdown.

Handsworth replied with a converted score of their own before brothers Chris and Alex Baldwin both drove over as KCs took a 31-13 lead.

But the hosts did not learn from their first-half errors and gave away yet another penalty in the very first min - ute of the second period to gift Handsworth possession.

Ed Lea pushed over for a score but back came KCs.

Firstly, after a clean catch by Chris Baldwin at a five-metre lineout, replacement Layton Wilkinson, also returning from injury, was driven over and Taylor converted well.

Morgan combined well with Andy McLellan and Winfield before finished a fine move.

Now trailing 43-18, the visi - tors suffered another blow when the influential Lea was shown yellow and within a minute of his dismissal replacement fly half Mark Wratten scored a debut try.

A scything run by McLellan had Handsworth in full retreat and from a ruck under their posts Alex Baldwin floated a pass to his brother Chris for his second try.

Handsworth, still down to 14 men, hit back as centre Will Theaker collected a clever kick to the right corner and touched down.

Then, ten minutes later and restored to their full complement,Theaker fin - ished off some good handling by the visitors to score the all important fourth try.

But the Baldwin twins had the last word as Alex set up man of the match Chris to go over for his hat-trick.
