VICTORY over Serbia’s Reka Bezeg was the highlight for Charlotte Bardsley as she represented England at the Hungarian Junior and Cadet Open in Szombathely.
The 13-year-old from Heathfield School pupil appeared in team, doubles and singles events at the tournament, against players up to two years her senior.
And it was in the team event that she defeated Bezeg 3-1 (11-6, 4-11, 11-5, 11-2).
Unfortunately, that was not enough to prevent Bardsley and teammate Mollie Patterson losing 3-1 overall, and they were also defeated by Romania B and Hungary, both 3-0.
In the singles, Bardsley was eliminated in the group stage, having been defeated 3-0 by Anna Wegrzyn of Poland (14-12, 11-3, 11-4), before showing great fight against Spain’s Carmen Henares, coming from 2-0 down before losing 3-2 (11-6, 12-10, 4-11, 8-11, 4-11).
In the doubles, Bardsley partnered Denise Payet but the pair were eliminated in the first round, losing 3-1 to Anita Drabant and Viola Phan of the host nation (11-6, 11-9, 3-11, 14-12).
