BEWDLEY managed to earn a share of the spoils as they recorded a losing draw at big-hitting Colwall in the Worcestershire County League Division Two.

The home side’s strong batting line-up ran up a huge total of 330-7 on a batting-friendly pitch, led by skipper James Abel with 104 and Tom Coleman’s 83 not out.

Bewdley’s bowlers toiled manfully in the heat, but only Simon Mauger (3-91) made any real impact.

The target was always going to be beyond Bewdley, but helped by 53 extras, and contributions from Paul Beard (41) and Connor Franklin (24) they reached 181-9 with five overs still remaining.

These overs were safely negotiated by Rob Crane and Ewan Peer depriving Colwall of a win.

Bewdley entertain Feckenham on Saturday (1.30pm start).

The seconds picked up a winning draw against Colwall in a game that looked all but over within the first hour.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Bewdley were in dire straits as Michael Gooch (2-27) and David Brassett (6-75) produced a fine opening spell of bowling that had the hosts reeling at 29-5.

David Jones (30) led the recovery but Bewdley were still precariously placed at 107-7 heading into the last 15 overs.

Tom Weaver (58) and Mark Hudson (45no) shared a stand of 67 that propelled the score to 192.

The Colwall reply got off to a steady start with Tim Riley (86) anchoring the innings, but he failed to get much support at the other end and Bewdley were able to stay in the game with wickets here and there.

Weaver (4-29) and Hudson (1-22) both completed fine all-round displays with important wickets, and Dave Jones (1-32 off 17 overs) proved difficult to get away but the game was still in the balance as it headed towards its conclusion.

The dismissal of Riley effecively ended Colwall’s winning challenge but they were able to bat out the last couple of overs, the innings closing on 166-8 to frustrate Bewdley.
