BEWDLEY were frustrated by bottom-of-the-table Tenbury in Worcestershire League Division Two as they were held to a losing draw.

Rob Combes elected to bat after winning the toss, and his decision looked a good one as he fired a sparkling century and Paul Beard (26), Simon Mauger (25) and Gareth Lewis (42) all made useful contributions.

After a mid-innings wobble, Rob Crane (29 not out) helped Combes in a partnership of 80 before the declaration on 310-7 came, leaving Bewdley 54 overs to bowl out their opponents.

Despite losing two wickets early on, resilient Tenbury hit 271-7 in reply.

There were three wickets apiece for Tom Weaver and Mauger.

Bewdley go to second from bottom Combs Wood on Saturday (1.30pm start).

The seconds suffered a disappointing setback at the hands of Droitwich, in a game that hinged on the toss with the wicket offering some help after tea and suiting the Drotwich spinners.

Unsurprisingly, after winning the toss Droitwich chose to bat first and while the returning Sean Robinson struck an early blow, James Hancher (121) and Rhys John (91) set about amassing a big score.

Stephen Molyneux (2-28) removed both late in the day but the damage was done by then, Droitwich posting 281-3.

After an energy-sapping afternoon in the field, it would always prove to be a tough total to chase down.

Several Bewdley batters were able to get starts, Matt Thwaites (37) the pick but nobody could go on and make the big score that needs to be the foundation for such a chase.

Darren Stephens (6-29) was the chief destroyer as Bewdley finished on 185-8.

n Chaddesley Corbett had to settle for a losing draw at home to Barestree and Lugwardine in Worcestershire League Division Four.

Lugwardine opted to bat first having won the toss and were bowled out for 198.

Muhammad Sadiq (4-77), Chris Mole (2-63) and David Perry (3-18) were the wicket-takers for Corbett.

Mohammed Ramzan top-scored with 70, while Matthew Yardley (38no) also made a good contribution but Chaddesley were kept 166-7.

Corbett go to Kidderminster on Saturday (1.30pm start).

n Third-placed Cleobury Mortimer suffered a five-wicket loss at the hands of Halesowen.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Mortimer were bowled out for 184 in 38 overs. David Leach (63) and Ben Griffiths (47) got among the runs, while Adam Hawker took five wickets for Halesowen.

James Manley took three wickets but Mortimer’s opponents replied with 189-5 in 33 overs.

Mortimer enterain Bromsgrove at home on Saturday.
