BUSY Rod Brown has been putting his Stourport Swifts squad through their paces over the Lickey Hills this summer — but admits things haven’t gone to plan.

Striker Lewis Pountney and new signing from Bromsgrove Sporting Chris Morrison are both struggling to shake-off injuries and haven’t trained yet.

Added to that, midfield man Timmy Jackson had to have his appendix removed and will be sidelined for several weeks.

If that wasn’t bad enough, fellow marksman Jon Griffin changed his job which has limited his availability for training.

Brown said: “It’s all been a bit disruptive. I like my pre-season’s to be well organised and this year that hasn’t been the case.”

This summer, Brown has brought in midfield players Jamie Hyde and James Blake plus striker Leon Kandekore all from Southern League side Evesham United.

He’s also plundered Bromsgrove Sporting further by recruiting left-back Nick Harris.

However, Brown has lost the services of Joe Adams, who has joined his father at Midland Alliance rivals Highgate United while Matty Williams has teamed up with his former Cheltenham Town coach John Brough at Bishops Cleeve.

Brown is running the rule over strikers Dimitri Brown and Oli Long, who was with Kidderminster Harriers youth team.

Swifts have landed a home draw against fellow Alliance side Coleshill Town in the FA Cup extra preliminary round with the winners home to either Earlswood Town or West Midland League champions AFC Wulfrunians in the next stage.

Brown’s boys kick-off their FA Vase campaign with a trip to West Midland league Division One side Bilston Town.
