COOKLEY teenager George Carroll became Worcestershire cadet champion after a powerful performance in the 2013 county finals.

Carroll, who plays in the Kidderminster and District League, followed the success of Charlotte Bardsley in the Staffordshire cadet girls championship.

The 14-year-old maintained good form throughout the Worcestershire event at Evesham High School to underline his status as the number one ranked under 15 boy in the county.

He beat last year’s champion Alex Tomlinson in the semi-final and then made short work of Craig Witheford in the final 11-1, 11-4, 11-8.

He also performed well in the under-18s event and led the eventual winner Ben Bennett by two sets to one, before succumbing 3-2 in the quarter final.

Bennett then accounted for Carroll’s elder brother Frank at the semi- final stage in what was a repeat of last year’s county final.

There were also creditable performances from Cookley youngsters Oliver Lowe and Will Hyde in the cadet section.
