Phoenix are edged out

LADIES FOOTBALL: Wyre Forest Phoenix were edged out 4-3 by Knowle Ladies to exit the West Midlands Regional League Cup.

Molly Maguire had opened the scoring only for Knowle to level the scores just before half-time.

Kirsty Jones gave Phoenix the lead for the second time after lobbing the keeper but their opponents hit back with two goals.

Once again, Jones scored to level the game but Knowle edged ahead again.

However, Bex Meredith was denied from the penalty spot as Wyre Forest went in search of an equaliser.

In the Worcester Girls and Women’s County League, Wyre Forest lost 8-1 at the hands of Hereford.

Melissa Knott bagged a consolation effort for Forest.
