ROD Brown is confident his Stourport Swifts squad will be in good shape for next season.
The Swifts’ boss has wasted little time strengthening his playing staff as they look to bounce back from an overall disappointing previous campaign.
Brown was hopeful of retaining almost all of last season’s group and was given an extra boost when the experienced Kevin Spencer signed on again.
The midfield powerhouse had stopped playing mid-way through the 2013-4 season because of work commitments but is available again.
Karl Fellows is expected to have recovered from a serious knee injury in time for next season.
Brown has also drafted in former Redditch United, Alvechurch and Gornal forward Joe Mogg as competition for Lewis Pountney and Jon Griffin.
Mogg’s season was ended by injury but he is fit to play again.
The manager has signed centre-back Brad Jones, brother of wide midfielder Jordan, and persuaded former Kidderminster Harriers’ midfielder Michael McGrath to come out of retirement and also picked up Nathan DeMont.
Since leaving Aggborough in 2009, McGrath has played for a number of clubs including, Halesowen Town, Galway United, Redditch and Evesham.
“I will have about 19 players for next season and I am very excited about it,” said Brown.
“Having Karl and Kevin back is like having two new marquee signings.”
Meanwhile, Swifts have finalised their friendly programme, with the highlight of a home clash against Harriers on Tuesday, July 22, 7.45pm kick off.
They commence the programme on Saturday, July 19 at home to Southam, then Harriers entertain Stourbridge on July 24.
Northern League Division One South champions Halesowen visit Stourport on July 26 and Swifts complete their summer games against Bewdley on July 29 at Walshes Meadow.
This Saturday is the annual presentation evening.
