New coaches bolster KCs

KIDDERMINSTER Carolians have revealed an improved coaching set-up as the club’s preparations for 2014-15 season move into a higher gear.

Head coach Ian Bletcher and director of rugby Phil Knowles have bolstered the back-room staff.

Former players Matt Greene and Mark Oliver will work with ex-skipper Stuart Such and Andy McLellan.

The two new men have level two RFU coaching qualifications and ensure that the seconds get the same coaching as the senior squad.

Bletcher said: “We’re delighted to have Matt and Mark on board, the plan was always to bolster the coaching staff and to be able to do that with two people we know is a boost.

“We want to make sure that the players in the seconds get the most up to date coaching possible, so when they get the call for the firsts they are ready for it.

“This is a considerable move forward for the club to have so many qualified coaches and means that both first and second teams will have up to date coaching, and players in all the teams will have access to individual coaching.

“Rugby as a sport can change every day so it’s important to be aware of how it develops.

“They have their qualifications but they will also be attending seminars and sessions to keep improving.”

KCs begin pre-season training next Tuesday at their Marlpool Lane home from 7pm and new players are welcome to attend.

They face a leap into the unknown after they were switched to the Midlands Division Two West (North).

It means they have many more derbies, including two against fierce local rivals Bridgnorth.

They start the season on Saturday, September 13 at Tamworth, who are coached by Leicester Tigers and England number eight Jordan Crane.

Bletcher said: “We’ve been put in a very difficult league, there are a lot more derbies.”
