TRIMPLEY Sailing Club has been inundated with a long list of youngsters after a successful open day.

Juniors aged between seven and 13 have expressed an interest in taking up the sport.

As a result, a five-week programme started this month designed to encourage children to take part and possibly become members of the club with their families.

Trimpley has therefore decided to run a Saturday Summer Sailing Club with sessions running on Saturday mornings between 10.30am and 12.30pm until August 16.

Junior sailors can sail at all or as many of the sessions that they can make it to.

There would be a temporary membership set up for the juniors.

Parents are expected to stay at the club while the juniors are on the water and will have the opportunity to have a sail themselves if they want.

The juniors would have full use of the club facilities, appropriate club boats and there would be experienced sailors present giving top tips and guidance to the youngsters.

There would be full safety boat cover during the sessions.

Other events are planned, for example an after-sailing BBQ.

Last week the youngsters were involved in rigging boats, learning knots and designed a Saturday Summer Sailing Flag which will be sewed and flown on the flag staff during sessions.
