Another quiet weekend for Phoenix as the weather caused some game cancellations

Arley Kings Girls v Wyre Forest Phoenix Girls

With the first game under their belt the Under 9 Girls were away to a very good Arley Kings team. Suspecting the game may be called off on a very cold morning, and the girls wanting to play so much, it was pleasing that kick off was delayed till 11 to give the pitch a chance to defrost. With only 5 today the game started and before we knew it, it was half time and behind.

The second half was so much different, although Arley Kings scored not long after the restart but some great play between Phoenix ended with a first goal for Phoebe Slough. However Arley then scored right from kick off. Then came the goal of the game from Holly Durbin. Arley’s keeper had cleared the ball it which bounced out to her 16 yards out, Holly hitting the ball on the half volley to score. Goals: Holly Durbin (1), Phoebe Slough (1). Player of the game today was Kady McGarrah in another great game to watch. Well done to all the girls

Midwest Counties Female Football League

AFC Bridgnorth Ladies 6 (1) v 1 (1) Wyre Forest Phoenix

Today WFP Ladies County were away at Bridgnorth and with 14 players to choose it was a novelty. The pitch was not the best and we just couldn’t get our passing game going despite being the better team. The first real attack of any note by our opponents saw us 1-0 down following an own goal. However within 10 mins of the restart we were level after a lovely 3 pass move saw Kirsty Roberts break clear of the defence and with a defender breathing down her neck she buried the ball into the bottom right hand corner. The second half kicked off and we were on the up creating good chances but unable to hit the net. Then Bridgnorth were awarded a penalty for a foul outside the box to go 2-1 up. Playing a high line and trying to catch them offside, which seemed the case when we conceded the third goal, despite our protestations. Our heads seemed to drop and with a bit of good fortune our opponents scored 3 more goals to finalise the score 6-1. Upon reflection we just didn’t perform to our ability in the second half today although some good efforts from Mollie Plant, in the midfield and Kirsty up front were probably the notable performances. A long break now over the festive period will allow us to regroup, and return to our starting form. Our opponents gave the Girl of the Game to Emilia Sinden.
