BEWDLEY seconds secured silverware as they defeated Redditch in the final of the Second XI Knockout Cup at the weekend.
Redditch’s total of 165-8 in 14 eight-ball overs was a formidable one, but in reply Sam Beasley and Matt Thwaites (49) got Bewdley off to a dream start with a stand of 112.
Connor Franklin (19) carried on the good work with 19, and at 138-1 Bewdley seemed home and dry. But there was then a dramatic collapse, and Bewdley, not helped by a couple of silly run outs, subsided to 153-7.
However, Jack Williams and Rob Davis held their nerve, and Williams scored the winning run off the last possible ball if the game.
Beasley’s astute captaincy, bowling figures of 2-18, and 55 off 35 balls with the bat, proved the difference between the sides.
