CYCLING: Wyre Forest CRC closed their season with a dinner and awards ceremony at the Gainsborough Hotel, where members could honour the riders who had achieved the most success throughout the year.

The outstanding rider was Steve Vanes who scooped top honours in cyclo-cross, hill climb, midweek time trial, scratch and handicap competitions as well as the TT championships at 10 and 25 miles.

There was double success for Paul Darby in road racing.

There was also a triple award for Andy Overton in the longer distances of time trials with the 50 miles championship and the best all-rounder title at distances of 10 to 50 miles, as well as the road bike club TT.

Jon Howard took the veteran’s club TT award.

There were runner-up awards for Stuart Walker, Dave Meacham, Paul Gibson, Chris Crump and David Briggs.

The Mike Nicol shield for clubman of the year was awarded to Richard Pedersen for his outstanding work with the junior cyclists in his Go-ride sessions.
