STOURPORT Boat Club came away with a superb win in the men’s IM1 event at Worcester Rowing Club’s Head of the River competition last weekend.

With the floods finally abating, time-trial racing commenced over a tough 4,500 metre course where Stourport faced an experienced Bristol Ariel Crew.

Winning in a time of 13 minutes and 51 seconds, the relieved Stourport crew of Ben Adams, Stuart Barnett, Richard Collins and Pete Spencer won by 20 seconds.

The next major target for Stourport is the West Midlands Junior Trial taking place on March 13 where the club’s 13 to 18 year group hope to qualify for the Inter-Regional Championship.

There are different types of competition in the sport of rowing. Time trials occur in the UK during the winter, and are referred to as Head races with the fastest crew awarded the title Head of the River.
