TORRENTIAL rain wrecked any chance that sides in the Kidderminster area had of playing competitive cricket over the weekend.

Instead of the sound of wood on ball that normally reverberates around the area on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon all that could be heard from local cricket grounds was the depressing splash of heavy rain on clubhouse roofs throughout the area.

Kidderminster Victoria did not escape, despite playing away from Chester Road, with their Birmingham and District Premier Division clash at Wellington abandoned because of the wet weather.

Rain also forced Kidderminster's much anticipated Cockspur National Knockout Cup game at Banbury off on Sunday, with the clubs aiming to re-arrange the fixture for July 8.

The Worcestershire Crusader County League could not escape the bad weather.

In Division One Bewdley's game at home to Worcester Nomads was abandoned and Chaddesley Corbett's bottom of the table clash at Pershore did not go ahead.

Stourport's first and second teams were unable to play Avoncroft because of the weather, while Cutnall Green's game at Pedmore was cancelled.

Cookley's game at home to Enville in the Division Four North was another victim of the weather, while Cleobury's derby with Chainwire was called off.
