BEWDLEY powerhouse Steve Knight flexed his muscles to win a place in the British Natural Body Building Federation (BNBF) Finals on Sunday.

The 33-year-old, who trains at Unique Fitness in Kidderminster, won the heavyweight section in the BNBF Southern Championships to ensure he qualified for the finals.

Now Knight will be competing against the cream of the country's bodybuilders in Edinburgh on September 30.

Knight, a personal trainer, has a good pedigree at the national finals.

He was runner-up in 2000 and named champion in 2001.

But he came out of retirement this year to in a bid to prove he's still got what it takes in competitive body building.

While sealing his place in the finals in the heayweight division, Knight is planning to go for a top three place in the middleweight section.

"I've had a few years out of competition but I decided to get back into it and give it another go," said Knight.

"The competition is in the blood and I'm looking forward to doing my best.

"Judging by what I've seen from the other guys who have qualified I am hoping to make the top three.

"I've got a lot of experience in the competition but I think it's going to be very tough.

"I will be up against a lot of really hard competitors but I will do my best."

Knight trained intensively and dieted for ten weeks to get himself ready for the Southern Championships, living on a fat free high energy menu that included egg whites, tuna and turkey.

Now he has the challenge of staying at the peak of his muscle flexing powers for the next six weeks.

The body builder will be spending in hours in the gym each day working out.

Knignt said: "The most difficult thing is sticking to my diet.

"I have completely cut out fats and been concentrating on working on the cardiovascular stuff, other I'm in the the gym doing running.

"Now I've got another six weeks to keep to my diet and make sure I am ready for the championships. It will be hard but definitely worth it.

Dominc Lye, 17, also impressed at the Southern Championships on Sunday.

The Kidderminster body builder finished third in the teens section.
