WYRE Forest taekwondo instructor Katie Billingham was invited to train with the North Midlands Area Division of the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain (TAGB) at their summer camp in Mojacar, Spain.
The week-long trip was attended by 13 students and two instructors, world master Brian Towndrow, a member of the TAGB committee, and world master Todd Wurr, a pioneer in the fields of application and power.
Set to retire this summer, this was master Towndrow’s last ever series of seminars on the annual intensive week away.
The week comprised of 2-3 hours training each morning on the sea front, then another 1-1.5 hours training later that day as the temperature began to cool again.
Billingham said “I feel honoured to have been able to train under master Towndrow. His detailed knowledge is incredible, and I have learned so much. I’m excited by new drills and techniques to bring to class. I think it’s important as an instructor to remain a student and keep pushing my own knowledge and ability. I have to lead by example.”
Billingham's attention will now turn to her club's coloured grading this weekend.
