A KIDDERMINSTER karate student has returned from his first international tournament with three medals.

Adam Ziubrzynski, 16, won gold, silver and bronze medals at the Carlow International Open Karate tournament in Ireland.

The Bewdley High School pupil was selected to represent the Federation of English Karate Organisations (FEKO) from an extensive membership of 76 asscocations and over 19,000 members, after a rigorous fitness and training programme.

The teenager had experience of representing FEKO at a national level but this was first time he had taken on opponents from abroad.

Together with team-mates Daniel Read and Mandie Read, Ziubrzynski clinched the team kata category.

Ziubrzynski secured bronze in the 15 to 17 individual kumite and alongside Scott Reynolds and Tom Jordan won silver in the under-18 team kumite category.

Adam has been training with Dudley Shukokai Karate Association since the age of six and is under the guidance of fourth dan sensei Mandie Read.
