TOM Walker enhanced his reputation as a rising star of the future by clinching gold at the Ingelmunster Open Championships in Belgium.

The Samurai Judo Club member had a tough task with 16 blackbelts in his category, but the 16-year-old displayed great maturity to beat all-comers.

He got the better of his opponents with an effective roll manoeuvre to win all his matches and secure a place in the final.

Against a tough opponent in the last match Walker was trailing but sealed victory with an effective throw.

Kelly Edwards went into the tournament in confident mood after winning medals at the European Youth Olympics and Heart of England Championships in the last few months.

She continued her good form in Belgium by winning all four matches to secure gold.

Grant Jones bounced back from losing in the quarter-finals by winning two games to sure a place in the bronze play-offs. He was edged out and finished in fifth place.

Sarah Biles continued to gain more international experience by reaching the semi-finals, beating her main British rival in the process.

But she lost to an experienced Belgium opponent and was then edged out by a French competitor in the bronze play-off.

Ryan Pitcock was the fifth Samurai member competing in the event and showed some good skills but was unlucky to lose his match with just one minute to left on the clock.
