COOKLEY CC finally got back to winning ways in the Worcestershire County League Division Three with a crushing seven-wicket victory over Amblecote and Wollaston at Kinver on Saturday.

Having chosen to bat first, the hosts were dismissed for only 140 after being reduced to 70-7 at one stage.

Adam Nicholls (4-31) starred for the Lea Lane men whilst Ian Roberts also picked up three wickets.

The target never looked in doubt for Cookley and despite two early wickets, Steve Hawkes bludgeoned 68 not out and with good support from Adam Matthews (27), ensured a win for Cookley within 25 overs.

The seconds grabbed a winning draw against Amblecote and Wollaston in Division Three of the Second XL League.

Cookley piled up an impressive 243-9 from their allotted 50 overs, Simon Kirby top scoring with a knock of 67.

Amblecote were pegged back in their run chase by the bowling of Scott Rollings (5-52) but made 211-6 in reply.

On Sunday, Cookely's second XL got their campaign off to a disappointing start in the Border Sunday League Division Three with a nine wicket loss to Oldswinford.

Batting first, Cookley were dismissed for only 85, with skipper Brett Murphy hitting 27 down the order to claim the top score. Stu Hawkes took the only wicket as the hosts raced to 86-1.
