COOKLEY CC made it back-to-back wins with an impressive 17 run victory at high-flying Burghill and Tillington in Division Three of the Worcestershire County League on Saturday.

The Lea Lane side batted first and after solid foundations from Steve Hawkes (35), Simon Cook (31) and Ben Southall (27), a flurry of big shots in the late order from skipper Gary Mills, who top-scored with 63, saw Cookley through to 227 all out.

The score looked achievable for Burghill but the bowling of Scott Rollings (4-40) and Mills (3-56) pegged back the hosts and they fell 17 runs short on 210 all out.

The second team made it a double for the Lea Lane side on Saturday with a three-wicket win over Burghill and Tillington at home.

Simon Anderson was the star with the ball for the hosts as he ripped through the visiting middle order, claiming figures of 6-42 as they were restricted to 206- 9 from their 50 overs.

Cookley's run chase always looked tight but they reached 209-7 with four overs to spare.

The Sunday first team started their season with a five-wicket loss to Spingvale.

Having chosen to bat first, Cookley made 161-9 from their 40 overs, as club debutant Phil Hubble hit 49 not out, with good support from Kevin Amos (29) and Russell Rhodes (27).

The home side always looked comfortable in the chase though and lost only four wickets as they made 162-4 in reply.

The second team lost to Pedmore, who were dismissed for 13 but Cookley were bowled out for 94 in reply.
