CREWS from Bewdley Rowing Club dominated the weekend’s Llandaff Regatta on the outskirts of Cardiff with five wins.

The club’s veteran D eights crew drafted in a 12-year-old cox from Monmouth and raced to victory in Wales.

Afterwards, four of the veterans savoured more glory when they won the E coxed fours event.

There was continued success for new rowers who began at last year’s Pub and Club Regatta. Matt Thomas, Paul Stanley, Sam Dawson and Chris Kowalik relinquished their novice status and took the traditional dip in the river after helping the intermediate three eights boat to an easy win over Bristol Ariel.

Sunday saw wins for the intermediate three fours and for intermediate single sculler Dave Merchant, who held-off competition from the hosts by three lengths.

At the Burton Amateur Regatta, the junior 15 four of Sam Taylor, John Keen-Tomlinson, Tim Hopkins, Oli Bushnell, Richard Ray and cox Alex Bushnell won a hard-fought race over Stourport in the semi-final.

They then had to battle against the wind to beat Doncaster by two lengths.

Ray then got the better of a home boat to set up a final against Derby and claim his first sculling win.
