STOURPORT Swifts manager Neil Hunt has asked his players for the same commitment they displayed in the 2-1 win over Woodford, for Saturday’s FA Trophy preliminary round clash at home to Hungerford Town (3pm kick-off).

The Walshes Meadow outfit ended a five-match winless run in the Southern League Midlands Division One on Saturday, thanks to Alex Lavery’s second-half brace.

Now Swifts go into their game against the South and West Division outfit aiming to book a place in the first qualifying round.

Hunt said: “I know they are in a similar position to us in the South and West Division, so it will be about which side wants it more.

“We’ve go to show the same commitment, hunger and work rate as we did against Woodford, then we’ve got an excellent chance of going through.”

Swifts will be boosted by the return of Steve Towers and Nick Clayton for Saturday’s cup clash, but are still missing a host of players because of suspension.

Scott Morris still has one match left of a three-game ban, Jamie Insall and Andy Jones will be mid-way through their three-match suspensions, while striker Wesley Joyce is missing for two games after his sending off against Leighton last week.

But Hunt is feeling upbeat about his side’s chances after he watched a patched-up team get the better of Woodford.

Lavery opened the scoring in the 79th minute but saved the best until the 85th, when he beat Woodford’s keeper with an audacious chip.

Swifts’ manager now wants the forward to really show what he is capable of week-in, week-out.

“Alex has shown glimpses of what he is capable of and I think if he wants to he is able t o play at this level or even higher,” he said.

“His second goal against Woodford was absolutely excellent but he has to produce the goods like that all the time. I think he has realised that he has the capability and I am hoping he can push on.”
