CAPTAIN Jonathan Wright believes that Kidderminster Victoria CC need to improve their bowling attack after they finished seventh in the Birmingham and District League Premier Division.

The Chester Road side ended a campaign that promised much in the seventh place, the same position as last year.

This was despite KVCC vying for the title right until August, when defeat to eventual champions Knowle and Dorridge knocked them out of the running.

Despite a disappointing end to the season, where they lost two of the last three games, KVCC had a fine season, where they lifted the Graham Williams 40 over Trophy.

Wright felt that the club's bowling department was the club's weak point.

They suffered a blow early in the season when New Zealand paceman Kevin Forde was unable to come over.

Worcestershire strike bowler Imran Arif also missed much of the season while playing for the county side.

Wright said: "Losing to Knowle and Dorridge meant we couldn't win the title and I think some of the players found it hard to get motivated to finish second.

"I'm disappointed because we have finished in the same position as last season even though we have progressed.

"We have been without an overseas players all summer and our main strike bowler Imran Arif missed half our season playing for the county, so we've done okay.

"We need to strengthen the bowling department. We need a strike bowler and to improve our third and four choice seam bowlers.

"Some players haven't played as well as expected. At the end of the day we need to make sure we play well for 22 games instead of just 15."

Wright also felt his side need to find a harder edge in order to be more consistent next season. KVCC won eight games, lost nine and only drew two matches.

"When we're good we're excellent but we aren't hard enough to beat," commented Wright.

"We have an off day we tend to lose games and we need to find some consistency to improve on that.

"Our batting has improved a lot this season and hopefully we can carry that on.

"My highlights for the season are winning the Graham Williamson Trophy but also beating Walsall twice over the season."

Wright also confirmed that he would like to continue being the first team's skipper.

"If the club want me to continue as captain then I'd be glad to. But it's up to them if they feel I am and man to lead the team forward," he added.
