ROWING: Four eight-strong crews from Bewdley Rowing Club are to cover a total of 60 miles between them from Bewdley to Purton in Gloucestershire, to raise money for Children in Need on Saturday.

They are set to cover 44 miles from Bewdley to Gloucester on the River Severn, then 16 miles from Gloucester to Purton along the Sharpness Canal.

They are set to come through Worcester between 9am and 10am , Upton before 11.15am and will arrive in Purton before 4pm.

Organiser Tim Lazenby said: “Last year my daughter persuaded five of us to walk from Bewdley Rowing Club to Kidderminster dressed as women for Children In Need.

“Rattling buckets, we raised £500. We later discussed what to do and decided to row down to Bristol.

“On average, each crew from the total of 48 rowers will have to cover 15 miles. Our biggest enemy won't be the distance; it’ll be the darkness and the weather.

“We appeal to local businesses and individuals to sponsor us.

“Look out for us in Bewdley. We’ll be in town the night before the row collecting money. On the day of the row there’ll be collectors on the river bank and canal side alongside the crews.”

Any businesses wanting to sponsor the club’s efforts can call Lazenby on 07957 282517.
