WYRE Forest rowing clubs savoured glory in a busy weekend of action.

Bewdley Rowing Club and Stourport Boat Club savoured medal success at the British Rowing Masters in Nottinghamshire.

Bewdley’s veteran B coxed four of Jane Trickett, Sue Page, Serena Gammond and Emma Hinton, coxed by Alexandra Macrae Gammond, won silver at the competition, which used to be call the National Veterans Regatta.

There was also gold for the women’s veterans E coxed four in an uncontested final after their competition from Belfast failed to join in.

Despite the lack of a competing crew, the Bewdley ladies posted a personal best time of four minutes 33 seconds for the 1,000m course.

Stourport’s Duncan Gwillam won silver in the veteran D single sculls event, losing out on gold by two tenths of a second.

The veterans V coxless pair of Stew Barnett and Mike Parker just missed out on silverware, when they finished a bow-ball off the bronze medal and only half a length off silver.

Both clubs also had crews racing in several regattas.

At the Monmouth Regatta, Bewdley pairing Jenny Merchant and Laura Ray defeated Gloucester in the coxless pairs and are looking forward to competing at the prestigious Henley Regatta against a crew from the Netherlands.

At Bridgnorth Regatta on Saturday, Bewdley junior Alex Smith continued his good start to the season, adding to his win at Shrewsbury by beating his Bridgnorth opponent by two lengths in the final of the Junior 18 single sculls.

Bewdley’s newly-formed 13 coxed four of Beth Chase, Emma Connor, Laura Saich, Georgina Kelly and cox Zoe Rogers defeated Evesham easily in the final to claim their first ever win.

The club’s junior 16-year-olds moved up into the senior category, beating the hosts by a quarter of a length.

Meanwhile, Stourport’s juniors were in action in the Northwich Regatta, with Alex Holford winning the Junior 14 sculls race.

In Bridgnorth, the women’s Junior 15 quad of Louise Clayton, Jodie Howson, Tamsin Harris and Becky Humphriss (coxed by Niky Hickman) claimed another impressive victory for Stourport.

Hannah Brighton and Rhiann Moses secured the women’s Junior 16 double sculls at Bridgnorth and then teamed up with the Junior 15 quad and crew-mates Danni Bowkett and Nicky Hickman to win the Novice eight race at Bridgnorth.

Stourport also savoured success in the men’s intermediate three eight, where the crew of Andy Morris, Ricky Parminter, Dave Beston, Leon Dyer, James Hough, Kerry Danks, Nick Danby and Matt Brighton, coxed by sarah Hough, beat local rivals Bewdley and Pengwern in a close race over the 500m course.

Tim Haywood and Pete Spencer, in veteran C coxless pairs, and Greg Southall and Tom Gough, in Junior 15 double sculls, also savoured success at Bridgnorth.

Stourport are gearing up for their 25th Works Four Regatta on Saturday on the River Severn.

The action starts at 9am and continues throughout the day, while refreshments are available.
