MIDFIELDER Jack Byrne is hoping his brief spell out of Harriers' starting line-up has helped him to recharge his batteries.

The 22-year-old has started the Aggborough outfit's last two matches on the bench.

On Saturday, Tom Shaw was preferred in central midfield and his fine long-range strike set-up Harriers' 4-0 win over Hayes and Yeading, although Byrne did complete the scoring.

He admits he's been feeling the effects of his first full season for Harriers.

"To be honest, it's helped me out a little bit," said Byrne.

"I've been struggling a bit and feeling tired in the latter stages of games and I think the gaffer has looked at it like that.

"I haven't talked to him about it but I'll be looking to get back in the side as soon as possible.

"Tom's a good pal of mine and he's gone in there and took his chance."

Chris McPhee also bagged a brace as Harriers bagged their biggest win of the season in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Byrne added: "We've done well to put them away today, where at other times we've struggled.

"We've always created chances but have been a but sloppy really but we've done well to put them all away."

Byrne is also confident the team can make a push for the play-offs, despite their five-point deduction for a breach of the Conference's financial reporting rules last season.

After Saturday's win, Harriers are sixth in the table, three points off the top five.

"We want the points back but we don't feel hard done by, because it happens in football .

"We've talked about it and said we can't do anything about it and we've got to try to push it as far as we can go."
