IT was a time to forget for Wyre Forest teams over a wet Bank Holiday weekend.

On Saturday, the only first team side to pick up a positive result was Chaddesley Corbett’s winning draw against Birlingham in Division Three.

Meanwhile, Cookley, Stourport, Bewdley, Cleobury Mortimer and Kidderminster Victoria toiled in their respective divisions.

On Monday, torrential rain meant all the fixtures concerning local sides were abandoned without a ball bowled in anger.

A fine batting display from Corbett’s top order batsmen and a strong bowling performance from Tom Mole Jr ensured Corbett came out on top.

Sam Boden (59), Matthew Grange (58) and Tom Boden (40) got runs on the board early as Chaddesley made 253 all out.

Mole Jr then took five wickets for 58 runs in just 13 overs as Birlingham were restricted to 223-8.

In Division One, Bewdley were held to a losing draw by Redditch.

Bewdley were set 202 to beat Redditch and record their first win of the season, and Paul Beard (68) and Gareth Lewis (62) guided them to 140-3.

However, a flurry of wickets saw them subside to 164-9 and only steely determination from the last wicket pair of Ewan Peer and Sam Beasley secured a draw and a third batting point.

Earlier, Bewdley had turned in their best bowling performance of the season, with all five bowlers used doing well. Jack Mills took 3-51 off 17 overs, and Mike Harris 2-41. But Bewdley’s fielding and catching was decidedly sub-standard as Redditch made 201-9.

The seconds experienced a rare batting failure to slip to a comprehensive six-wicket defeat at the hands of Redditch.

A big score looked on the cards as Ben Jones Snr (37) and Martin Flack (28) got off to a confident start with a first-wicket partnership, which reached 50 in no time, but only three more batsman got off the mark, with Bewdley bowled out for 117.

Nicholas Fowkes reached 70 and guided Redditch to their target with plenty of time to spare, Bewdley picking up just the solitary point in taking four wickets.

In Division Two, Godfrey Lamb hit 51 not out as Kidderminster were kept to 151-8 by Worcester Dominies and Guild on Saturday.

Henry Wright, Amrik Singh, Kevin Amos and Lamb took a wicket each as Worcester made 153-4 in reply to seal victory.

Division Three title hopefuls Stourport were no match for leaders Rushwick as they stumbled to a six-wicket defeat on Saturday.

Batting first, Stourport could only manage 245 all out from 47.2 overs. Neil Bailey had got Stourport off to a solid start with 47 but after a middle order collapse, the innings was saved by an 84 run ninth-wicket partnership between Richard Eyers (48) and Andrew Cavendish (46).

In reply, Rushwick left it until the 52nd over to seal the win by hitting 248-4.

The seconds also came off second best to Rushwick. Batting first, Stourport got off to a steady start against some tight bowling, with David Pittaway (44) and Bryan Colley (32) putting on 70 for the first wicket.

Phil Williams continued his excellent early season form with 71 not out as Stourport made 231-8. Rushwick made 233-7 to take the win.

The thirds edged out Droitwich Spa by two wickets.

An opening spell from Chris MIlls (4-18) helped reduce Droitwich to 142 all out, before a patient 35 for Pete Harrison helped Stourport pass the Droitwich score for the loss of eight wickets.

The fourths defeated Bromyard by seven-wickets. Kevin Hughes took 3-25 as Bromyard collapsed to 83 all out and Stourport eased to 84-3 in reply.

n In Division Four, Brintons Chainwire suffered a 10-wicket loss to Amblecote and Wollaston.

They were bowled out for 91 in 37 overs, with Ross Parkers (56no) guiding Amblecote to victory.

he seconds could only manage a losing draw against Amblecote. Brintons’ opponents posted 201-7, before Chainwire made 151-7.
