SWIFTS boss Rod Brown has moved quickly to capture young goalkeeping prospect Haydn Whitcombe.

The 6ft 2in tall 19-year-old has been in impressive form for Kidderminster Harriers’ youth team and Worcestershire under-18s and the gifted young stopper was recommended to Brown by Aggborough management team Steve Burr and Gary Whild.

Burr and Whild will be keeping tabs on the Netherton-based shot-stopper.

Whitcombe also impressed former Blackburn Rovers and England keeper Tim Flowers during a coaching spell at Aggborough.

He is set to be named number one by Brown for the 2011-12 campaign and will work with goalkeeping coach Lee Phillips.

Brown said: “I am really excited by the prospect of playing Haydn.

“He’s had some excellent recommendations, Tim Flowers was very impressed by him.

“Haydn’s only young but I like the fact that he comes out and takes the ball."

Versatile left-sided player Tim Jackson, who played under Brown at Stratford, is also set to sign when pre-season training starts.

Brown is still waiting for striker Lewis Pountney and captain Dene Whittall-Williams to decide whether they want to play for Swifts next season in the Southern League.

Pountney may still harbour hopes of playing for Conference North side AFC Gloucester City but he could find himself down the pecking order as Tigers boss Dave Mehew has a slew of strikers at his disposal. Whittall-Williams was married on Saturday and is set to inform the Swifts manager of his decision when he returns from his honeymoon.
