THE season ended on a high at Chaddesley Corbett on a soggy Bank Holiday Monday,as Himbleton-based owners Angela and Williams Rucker watched Cedrus Libani win the Men’s Open at the Albrighton Point-to-Point.

Ridden by Richard Burton, Cedrus Libani’s run was timed to perfection as he caught up with a rival before extending his advantage on the flat to win by eight-lengths, with Ringa Bay retaining second-place from the fast finishing Up There.

Burton also won the Open Maiden Division Two on Foc I Fum to clinch the national title, edging out Phillip York in the process.

A delighted Angela Rucker said: "We scoped him after his run at Cottenham and he appeared okay, but he obviously knew better than us that he was not right.

“He finished runner-up in the Dudley Cup and has not looked back since.

“I ride him in all his work and he seems to like that and he could not have ended the season on a better note.”

Meanwhile, a titanic Ladies Open was settled, when Jane Williams edged out Enville-based jockey Alex Dunn.

She won the members on On Man’s Green and came second with Lagosta in the Ladies Open race to make sure of the title.

Mark Wall has always had a high opinion of Flying Gnu and the mare lived up to her rider’s expectations by proving too strong for Winter Sunshine in the Restricted.

Flying Gnu moved smoothly onto the heels of the leader down the back straight and hit the front on the home turn.

Winter Sunshine looked dangerous over the final two fences by the mare was not going to be denied and pulled out extra on the flat.

The winner was bred by Kevin and Andrea Malpass at their home near Kidderminster but they were keen to pass on most of the credit for the mare’s success to trainer/rider Mark Wall.
