Harriers chairman Mark Serrell believes Keith Briggs’ transfer to Fleetwood last week could generate the club nearly £20,000.

The captain signed a two-year deal with Fleet on Friday for an initial £5,000 fee.

Serrell revealed if all the add-ons in the deal are fulfilled they will pocket a lot more.

“Keith wanted to be closer to home after the birth of his son and that is understandable,” said the chairman.

“The fee doesn’t seem a lot but if all the clauses are fulfilled we will net nearly £20,000, which is a lot better.”

Briggs, who lives near Stockport, cited moving closer to his wife and new-born child as one of the reasons why he wanted the move.

Despite that, Harriers wasted little time strengthening with a trio of players bolstering the squad.

Veteran striker Steve Guinan, 35, has joined on a one-year deal to add some much-needed experience to a very young squad.

Midfielder Scott Phelan, 23, signed a one-year contract. The former Everton youth teamer has Football League experience with Bradford before helping newly-formed Halifax to two promotions in three seasons.

Former Manchester United trainee Jack Cresswell, 18, has joined on a non-contract deal after being released by Walsall.

Centre back Tom Marshall could be set to sign for Harriers after he was not offered a new deal at Tamworth.
