HARRIERS boss Steve Burr felt his side demonstrated their steely side after their hard fought derby 1-0 win at Hereford on Boxing Day.

Jamille Matt's seventh sixth minute strike saw the Aggborough outfit record their seventh straight win in the Blue Square Bet Premier and confirm their place as the Conference's form team.

That was enough to lift them to fifth and put them in a play-off spot for the first time this season.  But Harriers were made to work hard in a game that was marred by torrential rain which had threatened to force off the match before the kick-off.

Burr said: "It was a different kind of game today, the conditions played their part but I thought both sides did very well and put on an entertaining game of football.

"We got the early goal and I was a bit disappointed we didn't add to that but all-in-all I was really pleased to come to Hereford and get all three points."

He added: "The results are be all and end all, I like to win like we did against Newport and Dartmouth but we showed another part of our game with grit and determination to get in front and make sure we weren't going to let that go."

Watched by an impressive travelling army of 755 fans, Harriers were also indebted to two fine saves by keeper Danny Lewis, while the midfield trio of Keith Briggs, Kyle Storer and James Vincent showed their appetite for a battle.

"There was a couple of mistakes from our defenders that led to a deflection, but Danny reacted very quickly and made two good saves," commented Harriers' manager.

"It was a typical local derby, the conditions were tough and both team gave everything."
