MANAGER Mark Yates felt that Harriers' grit and determination had earned them their 2-1 away win at Weymouth in the Blue Square Premier on Saturday.

Darryl Knights' 93rd minute strike handed Harriers their first away victory of the season (read report) .

The away side earned all three points despite having to weather heavy pressure from a dominant home side, with goalkeeper Adam Bartlett in good form.

"We managed to grind out a result and some would say we were luckily but we deserved that," said Yates.

"We weren't at our best. In the first half we started well but conceded a poor goal on our part.

"Justin [Richards] scored a great goal and we had one or two chances.

"No matter how many times I screamed in the second half that we were playing too deep we didn't do anything about it.

"The players took it upon themselves to play that deep, the back four in particular and it could and should have cost us - fortunately it didn't."

"Adam Bartlett made some good saves when called upon and we had a couple of blocks."

Harriers' winner came in controversial fashion when referee Brendan Malone was booed off the pitch by the Weymouth fans after he didn't stop play, while Kevin Sandwith was lying injured in his own box just before Knights' winner.

Yates played down the impact of the controversial moment.

He said: "I don't think Weymouth were moaning. Their lad went down and got up so I don't think there was an issue."
