NEW signing Chris McPhee is aiming to turn Harriers into a home-away-from-home in a bid to bring success to Aggborough.

Manager Mark Yates pulled off one of the coups of the summer by enticing the 26-year-old midfielder to sign a two-year deal at the club.

This was despite strong interest from League Two outfit Cheltenham Town and the fact that McPhee will be making a 300-mile round trip from his home near Exeter when playing at Kidderminster.

To ensure his signature, the club joined forces with fans' group KHIST to find and jointly pay for a car that McPhee could use to travel to matches.

He will be training once a week with his Harriers team-mates and also leading a coaching group in Truro.

The versatile midfielder, who was a talismanic figure for Harriers when he joined the club in February, has played for six clubs since starting out as a trainee at Brighton after spells at Aldershot, Swindon, Torquay, Ebbsfleet and Weymouth.

Now he is looking to settle down and a let his football do the talking.

"The way that I've been treated by the fans, my fellow colleagues, the manager and his assistant, who were terrific with me for two months, is a big reason why I signed," said McPhee.

"I wanted to go somewhere and settle down. I have spent the last few years hopping about and not really settling down and not becoming a fixture somewhere.

"I'm the kind of player that when I sign for a club and I want to do my best.

"Last year I signed for Weymouth for two years and I wanted to do a good job there but unfortunately it didn't work out.

"I want to take Harriers as high as we can go. It will be a hard job but it's something as players we look forward to.

"I did speak Cheltenham and they did offer me a decent contract but it was 12 month one that didn't feel right "I was quite uncomfortable over certain things, I'm a player who relies on a gut feeling, instinct I suppose, and if I'm not happy with something then I wouldn't go for it.

"Something nagged at me and I spoke a little bit more indepth with Mark [Yates] about signing here for two years and there wasn't a single thing he said that put a doubt in my mind."

Harriers missed out on the play-offs by just one point last season and will be aiming to go one better and make sure they are in the promotion shake-up in the Blue Square Premier this season.

McPhee said: "My job is simple - I want to win every game I play in. I want to take the club that I am as high as they can go.

"As a footballer I am and someone who works hard on the training pitch and does as best as I can every single game and season.

"This season Harriers are looking to get into the play-offs if not win the league. We've got a lot of players in the squad that were fantastic last season and learned a lot.

"I've been around the game for ten seasons and I've learned a hell of a lot during that time.

"The most important thing is to be happy and I'm absolutely delighted.

"I'm really, really happy about the next couple months, starting the season well and going from there."
