HARRIERS boss Steve Burr was pleased with his team's passing display as they kicked-off the 2013-14 season with a 3-1 win over Gateshead.

Goals for Michael Gash, Callum Gittings and Chey Dunkley ensured there would be no repeat of last season's five match losing start.

Kidderminster produced a silky passing display with new signing Lee Fowler demonstrating the full range of his skills and Gittings earning the man of the match award.

"I thought we played very well, our passing throughout was excellent and the way we started we were just a bit disappointed we didn't add to it, said the manager.

"We missed chances to increase our lead.

"All-in-all it was good to get off to a win but some of our football was excellent."

Harriers did not have it all their own way and Richard Brodie levelled the scores just before the break against the run of play.

Mickey Demetriou cleared an effort off the line but the hosts found a higher gear to score twice, while Gash also missed a penalty.

Burr added: "It was a bit of a shock to everyone when Gateshead scored, I think it was only their second effort on goal and I think we let it affect us.

"For ten minutes of the second half Gateshead were the better team but we scored against the run of play and settled down again."

Harriers will be aiming to make it six points when they take on Alfreton away on Tuesday night (7.45pm ko).

Defender Josh Gowling could be a doubt after being caught by team mate Dunkley and suffering a broken nose.

The manager said: "We don't want to lose our key players and Josh was more than happy to carry on.

"In 24 hours we'll know a bit better how he is. He may have to have his nose set but he carried on and I thought he was immense."
