WYRE Forest were in the swim in the second round of the National Arena League in Leamington as they finished runners-up.

The team finished with 212 points, just behind winners Blythe Barracudas (227 points), which secured a place in the final in December and a chance to win promotion to Division One.

First places went to the girls U13s medley and freestyle relay quarters, including Rosie Lane, Olivia Jay, Abbie Rowley and Georgia Lees.

There were also individual wins for Rowley in the 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly. Rose Lane came first in the 100m backstroke and Megan Tinsdale was quickest in the 100m freestyle.

In the boys section, there was success for Sam Osborne in the U13s butterfly and freestyle, while Calum Tinsdale clinched the 200m individual medley.

Ryan Larkin won the 100m backstroke and Jack Rowley came first in the 100m open freestyle.

Rowley and Osborne, who were selected to participate in the Worcester County Swimming Talent Programme, took part in the first of three three training days with one of the UK’s top coaches, Russ Barber from the City of Sheffield.

There were four hours of pool training with Barber who brought along GB swimmer Lewis Coleman to demonstrate technique.
