GLOBETROTTING Olympian Alison Young produced another solid display to finish her comeback in 2014 in style.

The 27 year old concluded her run of four regattas in as many weeks on three continents with a sixth place in the Laser Radial event at the Copa Brasil de Vela in Rio.

After a setback in the first two rounds, Young produced a series of high finishes but finished tenth in the medal race.

Overall, the Trimpley Sailing Club member has enjoyed a strong end to the year.

After being laid low by illness since October 2013, she returned to action in fine style by taking a silver medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Test event on Guanabara Bay.

It was the first time Young, who was fifth in the London Olympics, had been in competitive action since she had been struck down by illness at last year’s World Championships in China.

After starting the second day in fourth overall, she sailed into the silver medal position with the help of a second place in the double-points medal race.

Young then finished fourth in the first ever ISAF World Cup Final.

She made a fine start in Abu Dhabi when she won the first race.

But after being unable to build on her initial success, she made sure of a high finish with fifth place in the medal race in the Laser Radial.

Then at the Melbourne leg of the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Melbourne, Young then won her second medal of the year by taking gold in December.

Young took a comfortable 16-point victory in the 30-boat fleet at her third regatta in as many weeks with a second-place in Sunday’s medal race more than enough to secure gold over Belarus sailor Tatiana Drozdovskaya.

With the Rio Games 2016 Olympics now on the horizon, she will be aiming to build on her strong end to the year.
