CYCLING: Wyre Forest youth riders Jamie Crump and William Pedersen were in action in the final round of the Woolly Mamil Circuit series at the Stourport Sports Club last Saturday.
More than 40 riders contested the combined under-14s and under-16s races and after a steady start in the chilly conditions a leading group settled down to some serious racing, with Pedersen and his younger club mate Crump well-placed in the middle of the pack.
Several failed attempts by some riders to break away reduced the lead group at the bell with the Wyre Forest duo still in contention.
However, a falling rider brought down Crump at the final hairpin corner and although quickly remounting he was unable to catch his nearest rival in the final 500 metres and had to settle for second place in his age group.
Meanwhile, Pedersen was fighting out a bunch sprint finish crossing the line in 11th place.
Both riders have progressed through the club’s Go-Ride and youth coaching schemes which run every Friday evening at Stourport Sports Club.
These sessions start at 6.45pm for registration.
