STOURPORT teenager James Mongan produced a dominant display to win his class at the English Boxing School Championships.

The 14-year-old was handed a unanimous decision victory against Swindon's Michael McDonagh, who is a member of Walcott ABC, to seal the title in the class B, for fighters born in 2001, under-40 kilogram category.

He follows in the footsteps of his older brother Jerry, who sealed the Lonsdale belt in the under-54kg division last year.

But James, who trains at Dudley's Priory Park gym, swept to success with a series of confident victories.

After a bye in the opening round, he saw off Croxteth fighter Sam Turner in the quarter-finals and Kings Heath puncher James Devlin.

His success means the young fighter will now represent England at the three nations tournament in Swansea at the end of June, where fighters from the hosts, England and Scotland will be in action.

James had also previously defeated Muhammad Ali, from Hall Green in Birmingham, to take the West Midlands.

The youngster is hoping to continue the trail blazed by his older sibling.

Jerry went onto captain England at the at the AIBA European Schoolboys Championship.
