BEWDLEY crashed to defeat to a Bromyard side which has improved considerably since the start of the season in Worcestershire League Division One.

Batting first for the first time this season, Bewdley got off to a slow start with Sri Lanka international Dinusha Fernando bowling particularly tightly.

Adam Groves (33) again batted doggedly, but it was not until Rob Combes (52) and Gareth Lewis came together that the innings gathered any momentum.

After Combes’s dismissal, Matt Cowdery (24) carried on the good work, but Bewdley’s total, despite Lewis’s splendid 65 not out, seemed a little below par. And so it proved.

Andy Platt (1-33) was economical, and Jack Mills (1-25) baffled the Bromyard batsmen with some prodigious turn, but that apart Bromyard proceeded serenely to victory with seven wickets and three overs to spare, Ryan Tongue (94 not out) being the main contributor.

Bewdley go to Burghill on Saturday.
