KIDDERMINSTER and Stourport (KSAC) teenager Katie Lambert was in recordbreaking form at the Sainsbury’s School Games.

The 16-year-old smashed the UK Under-17s record in the three kilogram hammer with a throw of 63.08 metres to take gold, beating off stiff competition in the process.

Now ranked all-time number one in the UK and in the world’s top 20, she is aiming to continue this success when moving up to the senior weight for next season and admitted she wants to stand out from the rest after her incredible performance in Manchester.

“It’s amazing to throw a record and a personal best,” she said.

“I’m not surprised because I knew I could do it. I was just waiting for it to happen in competition.

“It is a relief to get there really.

“It’s annoying, though, because it’s a worlds qualifying distance and I’m a month too late.

“I’d still like to medal next season at the English Schools and get over 55 metres with the senior weight 4kg hammer to set myself a mark.”

Her success was just part of an extraordinary year for the youngster, who has become a force to reckoned with in the field event.

However, the end of the season is proving even more fruitful for Lambert, who now believes she is starting to show her true potential after throwing a championship record on the way to gold at the Sainsbury’s 2015 School Games.

Earlier, she established a new league record of 49.58m, throwing the heavier 4kg senior hammer, in helping the KSAC gain promotion in the Midland Counties Senior Track and Field League.

Lambert went on to win the Midlands Championship in August and then represent the Midlands in an England area versus Welsh international under-20 competition, again winning with a 4kg hammer in a personal best of 50.77m and being the only under-17 in the competition.

Last weekend saw her continue her impressive run of form with another success at the prestigious Northern Throws and Jumps competition.
