BEWDLEY beat Hagley by just 14 runs following an enthralling Worcester County League Division One fixture.

Following an uncertain start with the bat, Bewdley recovered to reach 81 for four after 20 overs when Charlie Eastoe was out for a bright 43.

Rob Combes, who hit 45, was then joined by Dan Platt and the pair put on a stand of 73, before a further flurry of wickets fell to leave Bewdley at 165 for seven with only 12 overs remaining.

Luckily Martyn Carr chose the occasion to show his prowess with the bat as he joined Platt in a stand of 63.

Platt departed for a mature 62 and following a useful last wicket, Bewdley were bowled out for 252 leaving Carr on 43 not out.

Hagley made a worryingly brisk start in reply before Andy Platt snared dangerman Joe Lennon at 55.

Platt again kept things quiet with one for 28 off his 10 overs and the game swung Bewdley's way when Lewis Williams, in his first spell, took three quick wickets when clean bowling the batsmen to claim three for 36.

Carr had to leave the field after four overs and Hagley entered the final 10 overs requiring 70 with four wickets in hand.

Jack Mills with two for 30 again bowled well an Robert Crane with two for 56 was left to defend the final over as Hagley were all out for 238.

Bewdley will be put to the test when they visit league leaders Colwall on Saturday.
