KIDDERMINSTER'S Ollie Williams will be an assistant referee for Saturday’s National League Play-Off Final between Tranmere Rovers and Boreham Wood at Wembley Stadium.
The 26-year-old started refereeing seven years ago and is now a Level 3 referee, meaning he referees matches at Northern and Southern Premier League level and is an assistant referee at National League (Conference) matches.
Williams, who works at Worcestershire Football Association and oversees refereeing across the county, was informed of his appointment in a phone call from The FA’s Senior Referee Manager Peter Elsworth on Monday.
He said: “It’s a phone call that every match official would like to receive but I was absolutely speechless.
“Walking out at Wembley will be the best moment of my relatively short refereeing career and one which may never happen again as such appointments don’t happen very often.
“It has been an amazing season with some really high-profile appointments including the Wrexham v Chester derby live on BT Sport.
“To finish the season as an official at the home of English football is the best possible reward and I can’t wait for the match.”
Neil Hair (Huntingdonshire) will be referee and Williams will be an assistant along with Bhupinder Gill (London), while Paul Marsden (Lancashire) will be the fourth official for the match which kicks off at 3pm and is live on BT Sport 1 next Saturday.
