KIDDERMINSTER Harriers could be set for a battle to hang onto much-sought after striker Jamille Matt after reports suggested Sheffield United were running the rule over him.

The 22-year-old, who was allowed a leave of absence last season by the Aggborough outfit so he could fight claims he is an illegal immigrant, was mooted as one of several trialists United boss Danny Wilson was casting his eye over.

Matt was one of Harriers’ leading lights last season, scoring 14 goals before taking time off to deal with the UK Border Agency over allegations regarding his British citizenship and issues with his work permit.

Despite his problems, chairman Mark Serrell and manager Steve Burr were keen to hold onto the striker, who attracted several bids from Northampton Town in January, and took up an option to extend his deal for another year this summer.
