Loughborough University 1, Stourport Swifts 1

Striker John Griffin struck an injury time penalty to salvage a draw for Swifts.

It looked as though Rod Brown’s side would be heading back to Walshes Meadow empty-handed but three minutes into time added on, the referee spotted a push inside a packed area, pointed to the spot and Griffin made no mistake with the kick.

Early pressure from the home side had seen James Winchester and leading scorer Tristian Dunkley squander early chances before Griffin had a shot that lacked the power to beat the Students keeper.

There were more chances after the break, Jake Emmett firing across goal for the home side before Griffin did the same for Stourport.

On 79 minutes, Swifts had a good chance to open the scoring when a scramble following a corner saw Chris Morrison, Kevin Spencer and Griffin all have chances blocked in front of goal.

But a minute later they were fortunate to see keeper Haydn Whitcombe escape with just a yellow card following his foul on a player outside the box.

Loughborough finally broke the deadlock on 81 minutes when a Morrison handball allowed Kieren Kenlock to score from the spot.

And that was how it remained until Griffin’s last gasp equaliser.
