Bilston Town 0, Stourport Swifts 7

Swifts swept into the next round of the FA Vase thanks to six of the best from striker John Griffin.

Rod Brown’s side were out of sight by the break and the winning margin could have been far greater with Griffin also hitting the crossbar and Kevin Spencer being denied by the upright.

Bilston, who play their football in the West Midlands League, battled to contain their Midland Alliance visitors in the early stages but their defence was breached on 12 minutes when Griffin was left unmarked to tap home at the far post.

Seven minutes later he had doubled the lead when he pounced on a weak kick by the Town keeper and slotted home after running in on goal.

The striker completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time, a neat finish into the roof of the net from Calvin Dinsley’s cross giving the keeper no chance.

Bilston tried to raise their game in the second half but could find no way through the Swifts defence.

Griffin was having no such problems at the other end though and he made it 4-0 on 65 minutes from close-range before Jamie Willetts got in on the act with a 73rd minute from a corner.

Stourport wrapped things up with probably the two best goals if the game – both finished off by Griffin.

On 79 minutes, Jamie Hyde went on an excellent run down the wing before his cross picked out Griffin to slot home at the far post.

And the star turn grabbed his sixth four minutes from time, latching on to an inch-perfect pass from substitute Paul Hurrell before calmly placing his shot beyond the keeper.
