SWIFTS boss Rod Brown has hailed the signing of defender Michael Briscoe.

The 30-year-old has joined the Walshes Meadow outfit as player coach and bolsters Stourport’s defensive options.

Briscoe spent two seasons with Kidderminster Harriers as well as a campaign Telford United, which was ruined by a season ending back injury.

Based in Stourbridge, Briscoe joined the Glassboys during the summer but was sent on loan to Causeway United.

The ex-Tamworth centre back was released by Stourbridge and Brown moved to sign him up.

“Michael was only playing in the Conference Premier two years ago, so we are delighted to have him here,” commented Stourport’s manager.

“He’s joining as player coach, he’s interested in moving into that side of the game.

“Michael has a lot of experience he can add to our squad.”

Briscoe will step into the coaching role vacated by former Evesham manager Paul West, who has taken up a role with League One side Swindon Town.

Meanwhile, Stourport will be aiming to get back to winning ways at home to Dunkirk on Saturday in the Midland Alliance (3pm ko), after last weekend’s clash at Gornal Athletic was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Swifts had won their three previous matches.

They are also set for an injury boost as striker Lewis Pountney successfully came through a scan on his injury last Friday.

Stourport take on Black Country Rangers at home in the JW Hunt Cup on Tuesday (7.45pm ko).
