NEWLY-promoted AFC Wulfrunians will provide Rod Brown’s in-from Stourport Swifts with one of their toughest assignments on Saturday.

Brown’s fledglings have gone on an impressive six-game winning run that has seen them hurtle up the Baker Joiner Midland Alliance table.

Their latest victims were Continental Star, Swifts securing the most comfortable of 3-0 wins, Jordan Jones, James Lemon and Dimitri Brown getting the goals.

Brown was delighted with that performance and is looking forward to the challenge Wulfs will offer.

“Star are a team we have struggled with in the past (they beat Swifts 2-1 at home in October and were the last team to take points off them) but that wasn’t the case on Saturday.

“It was very confortable and we could have won by more so that is very pleasing.

“It’s all about positive and negative momentum. Football’s a funny game, when things are going badly for you you just can’t get a break but when you are on a run things keep going for you.

“Playing Wulfrunians offers new challneges for us. They are a big, strong side, similar to Causeway.”

The two sides have met twice already this season in cup competitions with honours even.

Brown said: “It’s been a nice change of fortune for us.

“I was surprised how poor we were early in the season but we’ve brought in two or three new players who have all had a massivee impact for us.

“But against Wulfs we will have to be at our best to maintain our run.

“I think think it will be a tight game and not much in it.

“I had them watched against league-leaders Highagte when they lost 3-1 on Tuesday and from all reports it’s going to be tough for us.

“Causeway was our biggest test but this is definitely comparable and it’s a game I’m looking forward to.”

Swifts could have dual-registration Stourbridge striker Chris Knight available again after he was called back by the Glassboys in midweek for the Burnham clash, although he was unavailable through illness, however, he may remain with Gary Hackett’s side for their FA Cup second round trip to Stevenage.

Brown has added another frontman of similar ilk to his playing staff with Chris Morrison returning to the club and he could be in contention with Lemon being rested after scoring then picking up a slight knock last weekend.

“Chris (Knight) is a big strong lad and offers us something different playing alongside John Griffin, who is more of an ‘on the shoulder’ striker, and Chris Morrision is similar which gives us that option, especially at set pieces.

“Other than that we have a clean bill of health and everyone came through training OK.”

Brown also revealed that former Wulfrunians joint-manager Jon Purdie, who left Saturday’s opponents only recently, has joined the coaching staff at Walshes Meadow.

“Jon’s presence will add a bit of spice to the game and it will be interesting to see how we get on.”
