STOURPORT Swifts boss Rod Brown still believes his side are in with a chance of winning the Midland Alliance.

The Walshes Meadow side are 20 points behind leaders Highgate in tenth place.

The Swifts have three games in hand and face Highgate twice in the second half of the season.

It would take an almighty push for Stourport to win the title as third-placed Tividale have played the fewest games.

But Brown was upbeat about his side’s chances.

He said: “I told the players that we will have a big say in who wins the league this season.

“We’ve got Highgate and Boldmere to play twice and Quorn once.

“I don’t think we’re out of the running, if we can put results together we’ve got a chance.

“If you look at it, we’ve got half the season left so there are the games for us to put a good run together.”

The Swifts saw their clash against Walsall Wood on Saturday postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

They will be hoping that tonight’s League Cup quarter-final at Westfields (7.45pm ko) and Saturday’s home match against University of Loughborough go ahead to finally get in some practice.

Stourport have managed to play only twice in a soggy January where every team has struggled to build some momentum.

Brown joked: “We’ve played twice and won both so we could be the team of the month for January!

“But seriously, apart from Karl Fellows we’ve got everybody available and we’re ready and raring to go. Lewis Pountney is fit, so we’ve got 20 players and look in good shape.”

“All we need now is the weather to allow us to play games so we can build some momentum.”

Fellows looks set to miss the next six weeks after injuring his cruciate ligament.
