ROD Brown admits the torrential rain which has hit the district hard will cause more fixture disruption for Stourport Swifts.

This week’s unprecedented downpour has left the pitch Walshes Meadow half submerged as the River Severn swells beyond its banks.

Staff from the club were battling the elements, with the water also getting close to the changing rooms.

Swifts saw home games against AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday and Highgate United on Tuesday postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

This weekend’s Midland Alliance trip to Kirby Muxloe (3pm ko) looks in doubt, while next Tuesday’s match at home to AFC Wulfrunians (7.45pm ko) looks all but certain to be called off.

Brown said: “I’ve been told by the chairman that we might not have a game at home for the next month.

“Half the pitch is under water and it’s getting close to the changing rooms.

“It’s frustrating because we were going well in the league and ready for a big push.

“The league says it may extend the season by a week but we’ve had so many games off and we don’t know when the weather will improve that might not be enough.

“I’ve never seen it this bad before.”

“At this time of year you might get games called off because of snow or frost but not because of all this rain.”

Swifts did manage to train this week at a facility but the poor weather will play havoc with preparation.

Brown added: “We’ve managed to do some training but one session a week is not enough and it is hard to find indoor places to train.

“This is a big disruption for every team in the league.”

Swifts are 11th in the table but have games in hand on almost all of their rivals apart from Tividale.

They are also set to meet Quorn in the Polymac League Cup semi-final over two legs.
